The Insiders: A snowy day and bingo, how can you go wrong?

Well if the weather reports are correct (and they almost never are) you might not want to leave the house today. Because the snow is coming.

It is being sold as the largest winter storm of the year (which is not saying a whole lot since this is only the second day of 2014), but nevertheless it could be a tough day to get around town.

Yet if they are wrong and you feel like kicking off the new year in style, then we’ve got a few things that might just spark your fancy. At 2:30 p.m., the Concord Public Library will host Library Bingo in the children’s room. While it is not as fancy as it sounds, since it is just a flashy name for a traditional game of bingo in the library, it could help your child prepare for their impending retirement in 60 to 70 years.

Following a few rousing games of bingo, stick around for Paws for Pages with Lily, a Labrador retriever therapy dog, at 3:30 p.m. Lily is quite the listener, as she has been trained to quietly sit as your child learns to read.

If you are looking for a little relaxation in the middle of the day, head on over to the Community Music School at 12:10 p.m. for the Bach’s Lunch Lecture, “Exploring the Darkness: A Meditative Listening Guide.” Meditation teacher Margaret Fletcher will speak on the perils and potential of stepping into the darker territory of life.

And to cap off the day, Richard Gardzina will grace the patrons of Hermanos Cocina Mexicana at 6:30 p.m. with his sweet jazz melodies. The best part is that it is free and, of course, that it includes music.
