The Insiders: Get your bug knowledge on in case it ever gets warm again

You know what they always say about March – in like a really, really arctically cold lion, out like probably a less frigid lamb. Even the heartiest of New Englanders have to be getting frustrated with the pounding this winter has delivered. It’s reached the point where we’re all actively pining for warm weather and all that comes with it, even the bugs.

So why not arm yourself with some bug knowledge? The Upper Merrimack River Local Advisory Committee is hosting another installment of its Bug Nights tonight at 6 in the ecology lab (room 123) at St. Paul’s School. If you’ve ever wanted to be a scientist without all that pesky schooling or constricting lab coat, this is your chance – you get to be a “citizen scientist” to help determine the health of the Upper Merrimack watershed.

And how many events do you know that provide free alcohol? Granted, it’s denatured preserving alcohol, used strictly for educational purposes, but still. Bug Nights have been taking place since earlier this winter, but fear not – there’s a refresher and new training at each session.

All other equipment is provided, as well, and it’s free, so all you have to do is bring yourself.

For more information, visit merrimackriver.org or call 229-4600.

In the bug-free activity department, you could swing by Hermanos to hear the musical stylings of Dave Gerard starting at 6:30 p.m.
