Bow town meeting rescheduled for tonight due to weather

Bow postponed deliberation on the fate of the town’s fire station until tonight.

The town meeting was rescheduled yesterday due to pending weather and will take place tonight at 7 in the Bow High School auditorium.

At issue is the outdated fire station. Residents will consider several proposals on how to fix the building that the state fire marshal has mandated be brought up to code by 2016. One proposal, put forward by the selectmen for the second year in a row, is to construct a new public safety building in the lot across the street. It would house the fire, police and emergency management departments in one building and cost residents nearly $6.8 million, $1 million less than the proposal voters narrowly rejected at last year’s town meeting.

Another option is to renovate the fire and police stations where they stand at a cost of $4.6 million and $1.7 million, respectively. That option is not recommended by the selectmen or the budget committee.

The last article on the warrant, added by petition, proposes spending $225,000 to fix electrical wiring in the fire station and the venting system in the community center kitchen.

Voters will also consider the proposed operating budget of $9.87 million, spending $350,000 to pave Putney Road and others, and $50,000 to study options for the town community center.
