Woman seriously hurt in Fenway elevator shaft fall
BOSTON – A 22-year-old woman who fell two stories down an elevator shaft at Boston’s Fenway Park after Friday’s Red Sox game has been seriously injured, according to fire officials.
Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the woman fell from the fourth floor and landed on the roof of the elevator, which was stopped on the second floor. It happened late Friday after the Detroit Tigers beat the Red Sox.
MacDonald said firefighters climbed through the elevator’s emergency hatch and rescued the woman. A spokesman for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center said yesterday that he couldn’t provide information on the woman’s condition, though MacDonald said she was seriously hurt.
MacDonald said it’s unclear whether one or both of the elevator doors opened before the woman fell. Police and elevator inspectors are investigating.
