The Insiders: There’s nothing like a good unearthing

It’s not every day that you get to watch something being removed from the ground after its been there for 50 years. But lucky for all of us, this is one of those days.

So make your way down to City Hall Plaza for the unearthing of the Concord time capsule buried in 1965. We can’t wait to see what those wonderful Concordians of the 1960s decided to hide in that little box.

Wait, what’s that? We actually have to wait until next June to see what’s inside because they want to open it as part of the city’s 250th birthday celebration? Well that’s a bit of a bummer, but at least we’ll be able to look at it on display at Merrimack County Savings Bank for the next 12 months.

But the good news is that today’s unearthing is still a reason to celebrate and make a few side bets as to the time capsule’s contents. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a gathering at City Hall Plaza and some ’60s music. At 6 p.m. is when things really get going with Nathan Smith’s rendition of the national anthem, a performance by the Concord Chorale and a few words from Mayor Jim Bouley. And of course, taking the old capsule out of the ground.

To cap off the evening, show off your popular dance moves from 50 years ago like the Twist and the Mashed Potato during Concord 250’s Dancin’ the Night Away party on Capital Street, featuring the Club Soda band.

And for those who enjoy bragging rights to go along with a $200 gift card, come up with a name for boloco’s new smoothie made with kale, mango, cucumber, celery, apple juice, honey and ice, and submit it via twitter.com/boloco or facebook.com/Boloco by Monday at noon. The three finalists will be announced Monday.
