Monarchs can’t overtake Bruins
David Meckler scored 37 seconds into the third period to pull Manchester within a goal, but the Monarchs managed just five shots the rest of the period and couldn’t find the equalizer in yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the Providence Bruins.
Carter Camper and Craig Cunningham gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the first period. Tanner Pearson got one back for the Monarchs midway through the second, but Torey Krug converted on the power play before the period ended for the eventual game-winner for Providence.
Providence, which outshot the Monarchs 30-23, improved to 26-16-0-3, just a point behind division-leading Portland. Manchester (21-22-2-2) is 10 points behind Portland and just a point ahead of last-place St. John’s in the Atlantic Division.
