The Insiders: Almost too many K’s to count today
Concord Insider's Ben Conant and Keith Testa (SAMANTHA GORESH / Monitor staff)
Run, don’t walk, to the State House today for an event that’s not only cool, but Tom Brady-approved! (Actually, it’s fine if you walk, too.) The Best Buddies Friendship Walk/5K run takes place today; the event benefits the Best Buddies program in hopes of raising enough funds to open a New Hampshire chapter. The organization matches children and adults who have intellectual or developmental disabilities with other folks in their communities to create one-to-one friendships that can last a lifetime. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is a
notable supporter of Best Buddies, and if you’re like us, you’ll pretty much do anything the Dreamboat suggests (despite the heat, we are wearing man-Uggs as we type this column). Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.; the walk begins at 10 a.m. and the 5K at 10:30. For more information, visit bestbuddies.org/nhwalk.
If that cause doesn’t stir
you, there is actually another charity 5K in town today. The Over the River and Through
the Woods 5K Run for the Animals starts at 10 am. at Northeast Delta Dental (1 Delta Drive). This race benefits the Concord SPCA. Racers will be running through a beautiful floodplain we spotlighted in last week’s trails issue (hopefully some of last week’s rainwater has subsided; most people’s 5K times inflate when they have to run in galoshes). For more
information, visit concordspca.org.
Want to cool down after running a 5K in 90-plus degree heat? Head right over to Capitol Street to the season’s first farmers market and smash a ripe, juicy tomato on your face! It’s a great way to take the edge off on a hot day. Or, you could just go to the market in search of delicious local produce to eat and drink, rather than crush
on your dome. The choice is yours! The market runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For
