The Insiders: Want to learn about an old house? Join the club

If you’ve always enjoyed the food at Tandy’s but found the decor not quite 1800s enough for your liking, you are in luck. Likewise, if you are a fan of women, clubs and Concord, you’ve hit the jackpot. If any of you are following along so far, can you fill us in? We’re actually pretty confused.

Oh, right – all of those things come together in one delightful evening tonight when the Woman’s Club of Concord hosts an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 featuring food from Tandy’s and tours of the historic Chamberlin House. The event is free, though donations are welcome.

The Chamberlin House at 44 Pleasant St. has been the club’s headquarters since it was given for that purpose by Nellie Chamberlin in 1919, but it was built in 1886, way back when people still relied on VHS tapes to record their favorite television shows. Tours will be led by club members to educate visitors about the historic home. For instance, did you know the original structure was made entirely of gingerbread? Stop by tonight and find out if we’ve made that up entirely!

Visitors will also learn more about the Woman’s Club and its involvement in the community as part of the group’s renewed focus to raise community awareness. You can learn more about the club right now at womansclubofconcord.org or by visiting its Facebook page by searching Woman’s Club of Concord.

If music is more your jam, swing by the Barley House tonight to see Boogie On Alice, beginning at 9:30, or catch Ameranouche, a gypsy jazz trio at the Purple Pit beginning at 9.
