The Insiders: Burlesque dancing workshop; need we say more?

Wordsmiths that we are, we spend seconds, sometimes even minutes, crafting this column every day. Painstaking effort is put into drawing the reader in from the first few words. We know when we’ve met our match, though, and sometimes there’s simply no improving what is already the perfect introduction. So we present to you, unedited, the fine pitch from those at Let’s Dance Studio encouraging you to attend tonight’s Burlesque Dancing Workshop beginning at 7.

“Move over, pole dancing. Burlesque is hot, hot, hot!”

First ever mention of pole dancing in the Insiders column? You bet. If the city council listens to our suggestions for ways to liven up its meetings, though, it won’t be the last. Either way, you should totally get your burlesque on tonight at Let’s Dance. The two-hour workshop introduces the burlesque basics, with the first half of the evening focusing on technique and the second half spent learning “a short, sassy routine.”

According to the fine people at Let’s Dance Studio, this is the first burlesque class in New Hampshire. Think of it as your chance to make history! And for $30 per person, what a bargain. If you are looking for more details, contact or visit the Let’s Dance website at lets

As if it wasn’t already hot enough in here, tonight is also the night for Newcomers Argentine Tango class at Let’s Dance, starting at 6. The class is open to those 18 and older, and though it officially began last week, drop-ins are welcome for $10. Call 715-51085 for more information.

If you’d prefer a nightmare-inducing event name on Friday the 13th, consider attending “Teen Night: How a Black Hole Can Kill You,” at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center tonight at 7. The event is for those ages 13 through 19, and the $9 admission includes pizza and a beverage. Call 271-7831 or visit for more information.
