The Insiders: Baking up a great way to spend Saturday afternoon
How much would you bid to own your very own baker? We’d go as high as all the money we have in our pockets right now (hint: that’s three American dollars and a Canadian coin we found on the way to work today). So imagine our excitement when we read that True Brew Barista is holding a Bakers’ Auction today at 1 p.m. to raise money for the cold weather shelter at South Church.
Alas, though, it is not the bakers themselves who are being auctioned off. Instead, it is services from local bakers – which essentially means you could wind up with all the yummy baked goods without having to clean your house first (nobody wants to bring a guest baker to a messy home).
If this is successful, we can only surmise there will soon be a candlestick maker auction in the near future, too, though we wouldn’t hold our breath for a butcher’s auction.
Need more incentive than mouth-watering baked goods? (The answer to that is no, by the way). Too bad, we’re giving you more anyway – the event will feature guest auctioneer Adam Sexton of WMUR fame and will include music by WindVine, not of WMUR fame.

Also today, there will be a contra dance at the East Concord Community Center beginning at 8 p.m. ($7, $5 for ages 15-25, free for 14 and younger), which we assume will feature the dancing style and not the iconic Nintendo game.
If you’re looking for music, Joel Cage will be playing at Hermanos at 7:30 p.m., and Pat and the Hats will be playing at Penuche’s Ale House at 9 p.m.
