Our brave girl

Re "A good day" (Ray Duckler, Monitor front page, Feb. 22): Our little girl, Tess, was also diagnosed with hepatoblastoma in September. One week after her six-month checkup, she started vomiting. I knew she did not look well. 0

Slaughter

As I was reading your editorial of Feb 19, stating that abortion is no place for government, I couldn't help but be concerned about the issue of human life. As Pope John Paul II said, "A nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope." It is a very serious issue whenever a child is concerned. Some people spend considerable sums of money to conceive a child. Why then… 0

Do some research

Re "Beetle, Doonesbury are offensive" (Monitor letter, Feb. 25): It's ironic that Kasey Wardell criticizes Beetle Bailey for its lampooning of military hierarchy and day-to-day activity. That was exactly its intention. Its creator, Mort Walker, was an Army recruit stationed at Camp Crowder in Missouri during the Korean War. 0

They were warned

On Feb. 23, the Monitor paraphrased Gov. John Lynch, saying that "no one was anticipating the economic downturn that has spread nationally." But Rep. Norm Major, Rep. Mike Whalley and Sen. Ted Gatsas publicly warned their Democratic colleagues last year that there was danger in using inflated revenue estimates in the budget. 0

Weak science

Many in the man-made global-warming climate-change crowd like to claim that there is a consensus and that "the debate is over." Since their arguments are based primarily on emotion instead of science, they use ad hominem attacks against anyone who dares contradict their ill-founded belief. The science behind man-made global warming was never strong and continually grows weaker.… 0

Colorado refuses money for abstintence programs

Colorado officials this year are rejecting nearly $500,000 from the federal government for programs that teach "abstinence-only" sex education, saying the teaching tactic is ineffective when it comes to preventing teen pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Friends First - an organization that was started by residents of the cities of Longmont and Denver nearly… 0

Busch dominates for second victory

RICHMOND, Va. - Kyle Busch led four times and for all but 25 laps and even made overtime look easy at Richmond International Raceway last night, earning his ninth career NASCAR Busch Series victory and second of the season. Busch, who also started first, never gave up the lead for more than 17 laps and grabbed it for good on the 160th circuit when Matt Kenseth spun avoiding an accident. 0
