then the residents, businesses and the local towns should be funding these projects. If the project is deemed of such value then the citizens should; approve the funds, acquire donations of money, supplies and labor to acquire the project.

The interesting question is - why did it take stimulus money to fix the bridge - why had all those Hillsboro shocked history buffs and local leaders not already have repaired it. Appears the bridge was not worth it to the majority of citizens - just a small group.

The Federal government (the tax payers across the nation) should not be asked to pay for a local tourist or feel good project. Let the Federal Government deal with Federal issues.

Why spend all the extra money for booting a car and then the labor costs for processing that action. Add a new “BOLD” line on the parking ticket saying you pay the ABOVE stated fine and late payment penalties or (just like Ports. & Manch.) you cannot register your/any car until ALL tickets and fines are paid attached to that license plate.

City does not have to keep sending letters, pay for the “boots”, pay people to install the boots and then retrieve them from the vehicle holding area and then the costs of someone to manage the process of giving the cars back.

They could even add another line on the ticket saying the cost of the fine driving an unregistered vehicle. This could quickly be a $100 cost for $0.75 parking cost.

In the town of Canterbury, 1/3 of all the parcels of land or about 70% of all acres are in current use. This state wants property tax to generate revenue and then exempts 70% of the property in this town. Two thirds of the residents pay much higher taxes so the 1/3 can pay much lower taxes. What would the “true” tax rate per thousand be if that 70% of the entire town was counted.

This land is not in conservation as the owner can sell it any time they want to whomever they want (and rightfully so, it's their land). If they choose to put it in “Conservation”, that is a different issue as they can no longer sell the property.

Appears Bettencourt either wants a (D) appointed or he wants to get some personal say in the pick – could he be thinking of some pay back favors for his back pocket!

You are still stuck at the same yield sign. If the incoming/ongoing traffic is that bad then you could not go forward anyway. All roundabouts have 4 yield signs.

Leave the main road alone allowing traffic to pass unimpeded, install a "yield" signs at the 2 connection points and those cars slow down but continue if no traffic - same as with the $680,000 roundabout. With a roundabout all traffic has to slow down, 4 yield signs - how is that more efficient.

If spending was cut 40%, why are audit revenues not only down by 40%? Sounds like again the staff level did not feel the pinch, only the people actually doing the audits. I remember at the last big e-coli outbreak the USDA said they didn’t have enough to people to “actually” inspect the plants with an employment of ~~105,000 in 2010. Plenty of people to sit and talk about what is needed, just no one to do it..

Reminds me off the gov’t security guard story that went around.
Hire the guard – but not in anyone’s budget
Create a new department with a supervisor to oversee the guard
Then the supervisor needs a director to oversee the supervisor
Director needs an assistant – they all do
Then they need a payroll person
Then an HR person

Then the budget gets cut. Who gets laid off – the guard, as all the others are still needed to cover themselves.

Less staff and more auditors and inspectors is what is needed. There is plenty of fraud in both of these areas.
