...and received the money, and planned on building a park to go with the historic bridge. Seems like a nice community-minded thing to do. Then for whatever reason, probably budgetary, they didn't build the park. And that's Obama's fault? I wasn't aware he was an elected Hillsborough Selectman. |

...want to see a slug fest in the Prez election as if it were some lame reality show. But the rest of us want to hear about the economy and other important issues. It may be more boring than mud slinging, but it's infinitely more important. I appreciate Romney repudiating the dirty politics game show. Someone has to be first into the civility ring. Hopefully Obama can reign in the nonsense on the Dem side. I'm reminded of the debate between Bush Sr and Dukakis - the mudslinging was awful and both men looked disgusted with themselves. Clearly they were taking the advice of campaign managers. Too bad they didn't ignore the "experts" - the debate could have been civil and informative. Most voters are aching for a real discussion about real issues. If you want shouting matches and stupid made-up drama, by all means watch 'reality TV'. But this country is in a world of hurt and the presidential election should be about issues. It doesn't matter 'whose fault' any of it is. I want to know what both candidates' plans are to turn it around. I don't give a rotten egg who buddied around with who 10 years ago. I don't care about ancient voting records. I want to hear what they have to say right now - without all the name calling and grandstanding and conspiracy theories. Voters deserve better than a side show. Our country deserves better than a poorly written & acted out script. |

Good one, Mr. Haas! This could be the solution to NH's budget woes! All proceeds of the Swear Jar to be applied toward balancing the budget! YES! |

...there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong. - H. L. Mencken The liberals have their answer: It's Bush Jr's fault (or possibly Reagan's). Both answers are clear, simple and wrong. Life just ain't that clear cut, even though we all wish it was. |

....should have to read and re-read this article until their eyes bleed or they "get it". How about a mandatory chip in every car which blocks all texts and all but 911 calls? If the vehicle owner disables the chip, the car doesn't start. A bit Big Brother, even for a control freak like me, but I'm so sick of these numbskulls in SUV's running me out of my lane or off the road. Hey, Texting SUV Driver! Yeah, you! Your driving is AWFUL! Speeding up, slowing down, weaving out of your lane. Put down the stupid "smart" phone and pay attention to what you're doing! There is nothing, AND I MEAN NOTHING, so important on that phone that it's worth killing somebody. And eventually you will. |

...or even Mr. Moore. The problem is that taxpayers are paying the salaries of non-elected, partisan employees. These positions should be cut from the budget immediately. If they are essential for legislative work, let the GOP & Dems pay for them out of Party funds. |

...say stupid things. Boss O'Brien is so draconian that his own party members are frustrated beyond reason. I don't condone Rep. Vaillancourt's choice of words, but completely understand his loss of control. |

...in a non-partisan job, I can't even host a political fundraiser in my own home, although I can attend one held elsewhere (Hatch Act). And here is a taxpayer-paid employee stumping for the Republicans? (And just because Mr. Mead "could have" given the same talk to a Democratic group....did he? I'd bet not.) We're not in an ethical gray area here - ethics have been kicked to the curb. Again. Partisan positions should not be paid for by taxpayers. Just because we've always done it this way doesn't mean it's right. How about it, House? If it's all about cutting unneeded spending, it would seem that positions so vulnerable to lapses in ethical judgement should be first on the chopping block. If they're that important, the GOP & Dems can fund them out of their own pockets. |

...instead of paying for a no-chances-to-win legal appeal to save an unconstitutional ordinance, how about funding the shelter instead?...something that does some actual good in our community instead of an illegal feel-good ordinance based on speculation rather than facts. If the management is weak, help fix the problem. How about a hybrid solution? Keep the shelter here with the help of the NHHS. There are better answers than just shutting it all down. |
...it won't matter whether the bishop is straight or gay. Nobody will even ask because it will be considered rude to do so. I find it ridiculous that the first line of this article identifies Rev. Hirschfeld's sexual orientation before they even state his name as if it were the most important thing in his life. Of course that's exactly how the media and many in the general public treat gays & lesbians, so maybe Ms. Connors was just trying to treat everybody the same.
"If we elected another gay bishop, what would that say to the larger Anglican community?" Barwell said. - Well, sir, I think it would say that the Church has arrived in the 21st century and is finally treating all people with the respect and love they deserve (you, know, that Christian thing y'all preach about).
Happy retirement, Bishop Robinson! Good luck in your new post, Bishop Hirschfeld!
