Since the respondents so far seem to have little to no understanding of the workings of the Senate perhaps some explanation is in order. A freshman senator is assigned to committees and boards, spends time meeting with various groups and generally has an extended period of time to find their way around. In comparrison to our esteemed president who spent literally his entire term in office running for the presidency, Ms. Ayotte has been a dynamo. She was voted into office by a significant majority of the voters and deserves a chance to acclimate herself before the character assassins come crawling out of the woodwork. Incidently, why is our senator being blamed for statements in a speech made by the junior senator from Arizona? Calling her "a liar and the worst excuse for a U.S. senator that NH has perhaps sent to Washington" is derogatory, insulting and downright ignorant. Where is the Monitor moderator? Isn't a post like this a clear violation of the rules for the site? If the same post was made about the senior senator from NH, the folks on the left would be falling all over themselves finding reasons to support her and her stance. By the way, what exactly is our senior senator doing? We go weeks without hearing anything at all about her. Isn't Jeanne Shaheen just as responsible for making her thoughts on this issue known? Wht isn't she involved in the "back and forth of political debate?" Maybe she agrees with Ms. Ayotte? We don't know because she is as usual, absent. It takes a lot of time to build that election war chest up for the next campaign. Just ask Mr. Obama. |

wss1 has the right idea. Get rid of the entitlements and programs that the federal government has no business being involved with. There are far more conservatives now than ever before. Prattling on about the "republican/tea party" way of doing business is foolish. I don't understand some of their positions and I certainly don't agree with them on all counts, but I do understand them. These are people frustrated by what they see happening around them. They are disgusted by the incompetence and criminality in Washington and in their state governments and want to do something to change it. I don't agree that lobbyists are the only problem we face today but they are certainly one of the biggest. The plethora of social programs that have created the entitlement mentality so prevalent today are a recipe for disaster. They've been created by both Republicans and Democrats. The blame goes both ways. We have a president who campaigned on transparency and "no lobbyists in my administration," and has failed miserably on both promises. Love them or hate them but The Tea Party people are a political force to be reconned with. They are having their say and their viewpoints are as valid as anyone elses'. |

This legislature is doing exactly what it was voted in to do. They are cutting spending and reducing taxes on business. The more money a business has, the more jobs it can create. This increases revenue. I know that this a foreign concept here in New Hampshire, where there is a strong anti-business tradition, but it's common sense, a concept that liberals seem not to understand. Try getting something done as a small business owner in Concord. There are so many road blocks and impediments that it's nauseating. |

So if the opposite had resulted in the November election you wouldn't be screaming from the rooftops that the liberal left had won a clear mandate to spend us into oblivion even faster than we're getting there now? Please! You lefties are so funny! When it goes your way, there's no question as to the rightness of your actions. When you lose, as you did so hugely last fall, you find hundreds of reasons to show that what transpired wasn't "really" the will of the people. The only thing that counts is the results of the vote. Don't like the results? Get more of your apathetic base to do something to support themselves. Face it. You folks had your run and now it's time to face up to fiscal responsibility. Big cuts are coming and it won't matter how many union supporters you bus in from Massachusetts and Vermont. Try putting some your energy into finding equitable solutions instead of making signs and wringing your hands. |

Abe claims that this is class warfare and the middle class chances of winning are "slim to none." The people trying to kill the middle class are the ultra liberals who pass bills no one has read and tell us that we have to pass them to find out what is in them. We can "fine-tune" the bills later. When did the American people become so stupid? If a producer read a script like this from Hollywood even 10 years ago, the movie would never have been made. Why? Because it would have been so implausible as to be beyond belief. Obama and Pelosi have lead us to economic devastation and their only solution is to continue to spend money that doesn't exist, pushing us even further toward national bankruptcy. Don't you people look at California and New York and see the affects of this kind of out of control spending? There is none so blind as he who will not see. |

You'll be one of the chanting liberals at the State House, screaming about the mean-hearted republicans and their "draconian" budget cuts. Please tell us how New Hampshire can "do better." You folks are long on wailing and gnashing of teeth, but mighty short on any viable solutions! |

The only class screaming about the budget cuts are the ones that don't pay taxes but have still have their hands out. All you liberals bleating about the mean-hearted Republicans cutting spending haven't bothered to say what your solutions to the massive shortfall are.. |

This is the answer to the funding programs that the liberals are always bleating about. Volunteers, getting involved with their communities and working for a positive goal. I didn't see Ms. Kelly mention government funding even once. What we need is more groups like the GFWC, not raids on my taxes. |

Our esteemed president has been silent on most of the horrific topics in the news. The largest single holder of our government bonds starts a huge sell-off. Obama? Silent. Our erstwhile "allies" in Saudi Arabia slaughter their own people when the demonstrate for freedom. Obama? Silent. Either they don't turn on the news, pay any attention to the intelligence reports or have any contact with other goverments of the world. Or, maybe they have a hard time fitting those trivial little items into Obamas' jam-packed vacation and golf schedule! |
Take a trip to a supermarket and watch what's being purchased by the people with EBT cards. I work well over 40 hours per week as does my wife. We can't afford to buy lobster and rib roasts, but these folks can? I routinely see people use these cards with no identification provided to verify that they are the people on the card. I personally know of a person who gives a "friend" her card to make $400 per month in grocery purchases in exchange for $200 in cash. The cash is then used for her to buy her tobacco and beer. Waste, fraud and abuse are rampant. Anyone who can't admit that clearly has their eyes closed to the problem.
