Boys' Soccer

Pembroke 2, Hopkinton 1

Key players: Pembroke Academy – Nolan Smagula (goal), Harry Army (goal); Hopkinton – Quinn Whitehead (goal), Aidan Burns (2 saves)

Highlights: Hopkinton took an early lead on Whitehead’s goal in the 11th minute and held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal, yet it was the Spartans who took the win on their home field thanks to second-half goals from Smagula (48th minute, unassisted) and Army (52nd minute, unassisted). The Hawks will get another chance against PA on Thursday in Hopkinton.

Coach’s quote: “Yet another frustrating loss for the Hawks, as we dominated the game in every statistic except the one that really matters. Whitehead’s early hard-working goal seemingly set us up for a successful afternoon but, instead, it worked to lull us into a sleepy game with low energy.” – Hopkinton’s Scott Zipke

Records: Pembroke 2-6-0; Hopkinton 1-5-1
