Girls’ Soccer

Pembroke 2, Merrimack Valley 0

Key players: Pembroke – Kyla Chase (goal), Hannah Picott (game-winning goal), Britney Hill (assist), Ryley Leblanc (assist), Mackenize Hawkins (defense), Jaylin Ladd (defense), Grace Simmons (defense), Adrienne Dorr (defense), Brooke Davison (shutout); MV – Mackenzie McDonald (19 saves), Elizabeth Philbrook (defense), Calli Gray (defense)

Highlights: The Pride held the Spartans scoreless for 69 minutes, but Picott scrambled onto rebound off the Pride keeper to maintain Pembroke’s undefeated streak. Chase provided the insurance goal in the last minute of play and Davison earned her fourth shutout in the row and ninth of the season.

Coaches’ quotes: “The girls kept pressuring a stingy MV back line and found success down the stretch. The Pride are well-coached and aggressive, we look forward to another matchup next week in the hopes of continuing to improve our game.” – Pembroke’s Jess Kaufman-Desrochers

“Pembroke pressed us hard from the very beginning. Their formation and willingness to step in front of any ball made it difficult to gain control of the midfield. Our defense hung on until the second half, defending 25 shots on net and seven corner kicks. We made some solid runs towards the net, but not enough. I was pleased with our level of play against a talented team, but am looking forward to more when we play Pembroke next (on Oct. 22).” – MV’s Kylee Yam

Records: Pembroke 13-0; MV 4-5-3
