Letter: Response to ‘Violent pastimes’

Published: 01-18-2023 7:00 AM

Thank you, Millie LaFontaine (“Our violent national pastimes,” Monitor, 1/15) for your courageous and competent writing regarding professional football and gun ownership. Supporting “the common good over personal freedom” applies to both, and will not diminish the “game” or responsible gun ownership. I encourage all of us to actively engage in addressing both football safety and gun ownership as public health issues.

How to engage? Conversations with parents of younger than high school age football players, gun owners including NRA members, your local, state and federal representatives are clear examples. It is on us, each one of us.
