Weekend high schools: Concord boys’ and Bow girls’ swimming dominate season finales; plus hockey and hoops results

Boys’ Swimming

Highlights: All six Tide boys contributed to the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, and the runner-up 400 freestyle relay, as Concord dominated its season finale, winning a nine-team meet at Colby-Sawyer College on Friday night. That meet concludes the regular season for Concord, Bow and Bishop Brady, who will compete in the NHIAA division state championships on Feb. 11 at the University of New Hampshire’s Swasey Pool.

Coach’s quote: “The boys combined efforts to win two of three relays. I am always happen to see times drop over the course of a season. Ryder Fisk capped his season with two personal bests by a significant amount in both the 50 (free) and the 100 (free). Quinn and David Wicks both dropped time in their respective events. Shaun Wicks and Calen Peace rounded out Concord’s relay efforts. It was great to see this team come together and recognize the importance of spreading their efforts across all disciplines to maximize the team point totals.” – Concord’s Bill Quinn

Highlights: Schaeffer and Thompson both won a pair of individual events and swam legs on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays with Karanouh and Hou, leading the Falcons to a dominating victory in a nine-team meet in their regular-season finale at Colby-Sawyer College on Friday. Concord and Bishop Brady also wrapped up their regular seasons. The NHIAA division state championships will be held on Feb. 11 at the University of New Hampshire’s Swasey Pool.

Coach’s quote: “Seniors Jenna Moore, Grace Qui and Hannah Rote all contributed to the point total through their relay efforts. The girls showed some great progress this season. Hannah Rote and Parker Steinberg showed huge drops in their best times this season. Griffen Hoaglund was a great utility swimmer this year. Cally Mahon and Bailey Chislett, both first-year swimmers, showed great improvements over the course of the season. I take a lot of pride in these girls who have shown a willingness to dive in and make their best effort. I suspect none of them had an appreciation for just how difficult this sport can be.” – Concord’s Bill Quinn

Highlights: Shoemaker tied the game in the second period after Bedford took a 1-0 lead in the first, and Shoemaker and Fancher scored 17 seconds apart in the third period to come back from a 2-1 deficit.

Coach’s quote: “It was a tough game today. Bedford made it hard on us. Coming off a long layoff we struggled, but played our best when it mattered. Kal Gaudreault was solid in goal.” – Concord’s Dunc Walsh

Bow 3, Nashua North-Souhegan 2

Highlights: The Falcons scored one goal in each period, with Webber having a hand in all three, as Bow won its third game in its last four outings.

Highlights: The Generals played an exciting first half, trailing 29-26 at the break against the defending champion Sabers.

Highlights: Tremblay scored a bucket off a well-executed sideline in-bounds play with 25 seconds left in the game to lift the Cougars to another victory on Saturday after snapping their eight-game losing streak on Friday night. The Stanchfield brothers and Dawson held Newport All-State guard Kayden Laclair to just five points.

Coach’s quote: “Tonight was about defense and making Newport work for every basket. They’ve had a nice season thus far and have been scoring a lot of points. I told our guys we need to hold them in the 40s tonight to be successful. That was a tremendous job especially by Sean, Hunter and Damon on back-to-back nights getting the assignment to lock down another talented guard. Holderman and Tremblay were once again outstanding. Highlights: Carmichael got the Hawks off and running with eight of her game-high 15 points in the first quarter.
