Letter: Heed the warning

“Root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the liberal left thugs that live like vermin.” “Poisoning the blood of our country.” Or, “if I happen to be president and I see somebody who’s doing well and beating me very badly, I say go down and indict them.” All these quotes are part of Donald Trump’s plan for America. Trump leaves little doubt as to the nature of his vision of America’s future: it is dark, humorless, vengeful, full of hate and fear.

One hundred years ago, Europe heard similar words and failed to take them seriously. That failure cost Europe 20 million dead and massive devastation across the continent. For the sake of the memory of the almost 200,000 Americans killed in Europe during WWII, let’s not make the same mistake. Donald Trump is trying to tell us something, we should all really listen.
