Letter: Tara Reardon understands child care issue

Those of you in Penacook who are choosing a candidate for State Senate District 15, please take note of Tara Reardon’s focus and knowledge on an extremely vital issue for our community: accessibility to affordable, high quality child care. Tara understands this matter first-hand, having had her children’s day care abruptly close without notice. This led her to help create a new facility by working with other parents and a local church. Fast forward to her time as a Merrimack County Commissioner, and she was able to advocate for and find funding to build the playground at our new Boys and Girls Club/Penacook Community Center.

Tara reports that the cost of childcare for two NH children is $32,000 annually, unaffordable for many hard-working families. Child care subsidies, especially for child care workers, targeted aid for facilities, and administrative support should be pursued in our legislature. Quality day care is directly linked to economic development, to the ability of businesses to thrive and grow, and above all to the health and well-being of children and their parents. We can do better, and Tara is best suited to advancing improvements as our state senator. Tara was also an at-large Concord City Councilor, so she’s familiar with issues facing our city. During that time and now, I’ve found Tara to be an understanding and attentive listener. I hope you’ll consider Tara Reardon for State Senate.
