Letter: Van Ostern is a far superior choice for NH-02

Democrats in New Hampshire’s 2nd congressional district have a choice to make for our nominee for Congress this year. On the one hand, we have Maggie Goodlander. Goodlander is a former advisor to conservative U.S. senators who strongly supported the Iraq War started by George W. Bush. Since she’s never held any elected office, she not only lacks critical experience but also has no voting record with which to determine her political beliefs. Considering this, one has to wonder, is she a closet Republican? In addition, Goodlander has spent practically her entire adult life, almost twenty years, outside of New Hampshire. She has a complete lack of understanding of the most important issues facing New Hampshire today, such as the housing crisis.
And when she bought a house here, it was in Portsmouth, not only one of the most expensive towns in the state, but not even located in the district she’s hoping to represent! She hasn’t voted in NH in 16 years, clearly she has no interest in the goings-on in our state. Does she even know that the Old Man of the Mountain has collapsed? On the other hand, Colin Van Ostern has spent almost his entire adult life in New Hampshire, has built his career here, raised his family here, and knows New Hampshire very well. In addition, his two terms on the Executive Council show that he’s a proud progressive who will support Democratic priorities in Congress. The choice is clear. Vote for Colin Van Ostern on Sept. 10.
