Letter: Save the GOP

The title specifically notes the GOP. I intentionally want to differentiate it from the WNC i.e. the “Weird New Cult”. Why should I, a Democrat, want to save the GOP? Because I want to save our American democracy which is predicated on an open, honest, and thorough discourse. To that end, it is the GOP, not the WNC, that would permit such discourse. I want to emphasize the need for such dialog. Without it we cannot make true decisions. Let me explain. Arguing a strictly Democratic or GOP point of view is only espousing a position which is, by definition, being prejudiced. Either point of view has the potential of being correct in the long run but without the consideration of both sides is still defined as prejudice and not a decision. It is only with consideration of both sides that a true decision can be made.

The preliminaries aside, my point is the WNC has clearly shown its lack of desire or ability to engage in true (honest, sincere, open) discourse. Should the WNC win this election, our democracy and its vibrant institutions will be greatly imperiled. We have excellent examples of strong GOP leaders voting Democratic this November e.g. former VP Dick Cheney and his daughter, Congresswoman Liz Cheney. Please vote Democratic, especially for president, so the GOP will have a fighting chance to rebuild and participate in this dialog and ensure the fundamentals of our democracy will endure. Something we all can appreciate.
