Belmont New beginnings at town public library

Belmont Public Library is receiving a $7,000 award from the Land and Community Heritage Program in support of its efforts to preserve its historic red brick building. The building was donated to the town of Belmont in 1928 by Walter and George Duffy, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The Belmont Public Library’s project is one of thirty five awarded funding in LCHIP’s 15th grant round supporting projects ranging from Northumberland in the North Country to Nashua in the south and from Portsmouth in the east to Claremont in the west. The $3.5 million awarded by LCHIP are being matched by nearly $20 million in funds from other sources. January is bringing two new opportunities to connect with friends old and new at the Belmont Library. On Saturday at 10 a.m., the library tabletop gaming group (Belmont’s Guild of Gamers) will meet to try out “Here, Kitty, Kitty” as you compete to collect neighborhood cats before your neighbors get them all. Recommended for ages 13 and older. On Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., gather at the library for coffee and conversation. The librarian will be on hand with book and movie recommendations from the library’s collection, but we will make time to just talk, too. Hot drinks and snacks provided.
