The Hopkinton Hawks A-Market AAA softball team (above) completed an undefeated season Sunday by capturing the Cap Area Houston Cup, defeating Bow Rowley Agency in the championship game at Martin Field. The win came after an exciting weekend of softball which saw the Hawks defeat CNYS Claudiaโs in the preliminary rounds and prevail in a tight battle with CNYS Vermette in the semifinals. The Hawks were led by the strong pitching of Shaylee Murdough and catching of Ally Duval, with aggressive hitting and base running from the entire team.
Concord National’s Beckett Glass defeated Hopkinton’s Banks Chevrolet in the semifinals of the Martel Cup Playoffs. For Banks, Jordan Barrett pitched well and Haley Murdough anchored the defense at shortstop. For Beckett, Emma Burbank made a few key outs at third base and Alice Rosenberg earned the win in the circle.
Concord Northeast Dickโs Sporting Goods defeated Bow Joe Kings in the semifinals of Majors 12U action. For Dickโs, Maddy Wachter pitched three innings with eight strikeouts. She also had two hits and four runs scored. Delaney Duford had two hits and three runs scored. Lily Hackett had two hits and played great at second base. Dickโs will play in the championship game on Wednesday at Sanel Park 5:45 p.m. Prior to the game their will be a ceremony for long time CNE board member, coach and New Hampshire Comets Coach Bill Varnell.
Davis & Towle staged a comeback victory over Concord Ortho at Grappone Park to win their fourth consecutive Concord Little League championship. Team members are Brooks Craigue, Cam McGonigle, Jacob Wright, Moses Carr, Body Coffey, Reece Reedenauer, Todd Sheppard, Eritier Demunga, Trevor Craigue, Ben Leon, Jack Tunguru and Wilson Rose. Manager is Nate Craigue and coaches are Kirk McGonigle and Mike Sartorelli.
Bank of New Hampshire scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Hopkinton Rattlers, 9-8. For Bank of New Hampshire, Isaac Vaillancourt struck out eight in three innings. Levi Madison had two hits. Patrick Owen had two hits, including the hit to win the game. For Hopkinton, Lucas Miller had a bases-clearing double and Tommy Rubinstein made a great catch behind third.
The Hopkinton Sharks defeated Concord Flagworks in the semifinals, 7-2. Cody Charron and Joey Simpson pitched well. Bronson Ammann was stellar on the bases while Jake Barrett play good defense.
The seventh grade Penacook Pride girls AAU basketball team won the championship at the Ball’n at the Beach II tournament in Saco, Maine, last weekend. The Pride went 4-0 and are riding an eight-game winning streak going back to its last tournament in Vermont the weekend of the May 20. The Pride finished the spring season winning two championships in a row. Team members include Emily Davis, Kristen Therrien, Taylor Skidmore, Maddy Follansbee, Emma Steenbeke, Hadleigh Sargent, Rylee Boucher, Kally Murdough and Macy Gordon.
The Concord Capitols Football and Cheer Organization will be holding sign-ups for the upcoming season on Wednesday at Martin Field off Iron Works Road from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Students in grades K-12 are eligible to play. This is an eight week program that focuses on building hockey specific muscle groups, speed, power, flexibility and endurance. This program is open to players from all communities.
