Wilmot Author presentation

Poet Laurie Zimmerman will read at the Wilmot Public Library on Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Her book “Bright Exit” won the Quercus Review Annual Book Award in 2013. An accomplished poet who earned her M.F.A. in literature and creative writing from the Bennington Writing Seminars, Laurie draws on the local natural world to seek meaning in the transitions and challenges, both difficult and joyful, of daily life. At the reading, she will also share memories of her friend Jane Kenyon and her mentor Donald Hall. Laurie taught English at Proctor Academy in Andover for twenty-nine years, until retiring, and recently joined the board of directors of At Eagle Pond, Inc. In addition, author Mary Lyn Ray, a founder of At Eagle Pond, Inc., the nonprofit preserving the Wilmot farm where Donald Hall and Jane Kenyon shared a writing life, will provide updates on their efforts. For more information, please call the library, 526-6804 or email wilmotlibrary@comcast.net.

Concord Spring collection of leaves

Concord residents with curbside trash collection can begin placing leaves at the curb starting Monday, April 24, for the return of the City of Concord’s Spring Leaf Collection. All leaves must be in biodegradable yard waste bags or rigid containers labeled for leaves. In the spring, leaves must be bagged or contained for easy pick-up with trash collection. Leaves raked loosely to the curb are collected only in the fall. Leaf collection will occur on a resident’s trash day and must be out by 7:00 a.m. Unacceptable materials will not be collected, including branches, brush, or plastic bags. Leaf collection will continue for six weeks through Saturday, June 3. The last collection week will be delayed by one day, with no trash or leaf collection on Monday, May 29, for the Memorial Day holiday. Residents can also bring leaves to Gelinas Excavation & Earth Materials Recycling Center at 10 Intervale Road, off of Fort Eddy Road, once they open for the season on April 17. Drop-off is free with proof of residency for loads smaller than a non-commercial pick-up truck. Find more information about the City’s spring leaf collection at www.concordnh.gov/leafcollection.
