A preliminary summit assessment of Mount Washington has revealed that high visitation has taken a toll on the fragile alpine ecosystem, leading to erosion, trampling, and invasive species, and has identified gaps in knowledge about potential chemical contamination legacies and suggested ways to improve visitor and staff experiences while protecting the integrity of the mountain.
