Wake up Democrats

The problem with the Democratic Party is they are only about a third of the voting base. The other third are Republicans and the remaining third are not members of either party. People that don’t pledge allegiance to either party vote on issues, not party doctrine.

They may have liberal views regarding how people choose to live but conservative views on financial issues. They may want to tax the rich but limit a person’s right to choose. If Democrats want to win, they need to stay close to center.

I disagree strongly with Jonathan Baird calling for the Democrats to be more progressive. I think most people in this middle position lean either slightly right or left. Progressive change takes time and I think the middle voters are not going to embrace large changes left of center. If the Democrats go way left, the Democrats’ base will be thrilled. They will nominate that candidate like they did with Kamala Harris. Their joy will only last until election night when the Republicans continue to win. To defeat the current Republican party, in my opinion, the Democrats need to embrace the independent voters and listen to what is important to them, not the Democratic Party.
