Letter: A gentle parking reminder

Published: 7/14/2018 12:00:56 AM

I have lived and worked in Concord for the last 20 years. I love Saturday mornings and the farmers market downtown.

My routine to start most every weekend is an early-morning workout, a visit to the market for fresh produce and the opportunity to take advantage of free parking. Imagine my surprise when I walked back to my car and found a city of Concord parking violation envelope on my windshield. I forgot that the city changed the parking rules July 1, extended meter parking until 7 p.m. and eliminated free parking on Saturdays.

I could’ve kicked myself when I saw that yellow envelope. But when I opened it, under the comments section, it read “warning only, enforcement Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.”

Regardless of what you might think about the new parking rules, hats off to the city for the warning concept in educating our citizens. You certainly got my attention, and your methodology is appreciated.
