UNH field hockey

The University of New Hampshire field hockey program announced the recruitment of Hampton’s Finn Caron and Tori Palumbo, of Ayer, Mass., who signed letters of intent this week.

Ski film

The new Warren Miller ski film, Line of Descent, will be showing five times at the Music Hall in Portsmouth on Nov. 20, 21 and 22. The Nov. 20 screening begins at 8 p.m. The film will again be shown at 6 and 9 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 22. Attendees will receive a midweek ticket to Sugarbush, a flex pass to Gunstock (50 percent off a daily lift ticket), a non-vacation time weekend or weekday ticket to Smuggler’s Notch to be used before Christmas, or a pass to Abenaki Ski Hill.

First Tee

The First Tee of New Hampshire announced new leadership on Tuesday. Chris Sargent was promoted to executive director and Kori Doring is the new program director. First Tee is a 15-year-old non-profit that uses golf to teach life skills and values to New Hampshire children. Beaver Meadow Golf Course is the newest of the program’s 12 locations across the state.


Seacoast United Cubs Baseball Club will be offering specialized skills classes for players in the Concord area. The 12-week classes will be offered from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays. It will include classes such as General Skill Development, Gap-to-Gap Hitters’ Clinic, Strike-One Pitchers’ Clinic and Caught Stealing Catchers’ Clinic. FieldHouse Sports Little Strikers soccer skills clinics for ages 3-6 are open for registration. The next five-week session begins this Saturday morning at FieldHouse Sports Indoor Sports Facility. Clinics are instructional, interactive and fun. Cost: Mini Strikers (ages 3-4) $40, Little Strikers (ages 5-6) $50. T-shirt included. Cap City Basketball is hosting six clinics in November for players in kindergarten through 10th grade. Three of the clinics (Sunday, Nov. 24 and Nov. 26) will be held at the Concord Boys & Girls Club with K-5 going from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while grades 6-10 from 12:30-2 p.m. The Nov. 22 clinic will be held at Bishop Brady High School with K-5 going from 1-2:30 p.m. and grades 6-10 from 2:30-4 p.m. Cost is $25 per clinic or $100 for all six, which includes a free Cap City headband. FieldHouse Sports field hockey clinics for boys and girls in grades K-6 are open for registration. Beginners are encouraged to participate. The next session begins Dec. 7. Clinics meet on Thursday afternoons for five-week sessions and are coached by Tracy Berube, former varsity coach at Bow High. The cost is $65. Nordic ski lessons offered through the Concord Nordic BKL via Concord Parks & Recreation, can teach children how to ski and offer training for the more experienced skier, as well as opportunities to learn about Nordic racing. The program runs on Fridays from Jan. 12-Feb. 16 from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Children are required to have their own equipment and pre-registration is required. Concord Crush Learn to Play lacrosse clinics will be held this winter. This will be a co-ed clinic for players in grades 1-4. Clinics will be held Monday evenings beginning Jan. 22 and running through March. Clinics will be held at Seacoast Indoor, 10 Ferry St. This clinic is open to all area players. Register through the City of Concord Recreation department website. Cost is $30.


Sixth Annual Boys & Girls Club Fall Classic will be hosted by NHTI on Wednesday. The Plymouth State University and Rivier University men’s and women’s basketball teams will face off at 6 p.m.and 8 p.m. The event is to provide future scholarships for students attending NHTI and build a strong relationship with the Boys & Girls Club in Concord. Tickets will go on sale for the games at 5 p.m. at the Crocker Wellness Center. Admissions for adults are $5 and students are $2.


Hillsboro-Deering High School will hold tryouts for winter sports at the following locations: boys’ basketball, Monday, 3-6 p.m. in the gym; Alpine skiing practice, Tuesday, 3-4 p.m. in the weight room.

Seacoast Express United will hold tryouts for players born in 1999 to 2003 on Nov. 26 at 10 Ferry St., Concord. Girls’ tryouts are from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and boys will tryout from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For more information, contact Darrell Betley at dbetley@seacoastunited.com.

Winter basketball leagues for boys and girls of all skill levels in grades 2-9 are now being offered by Cap City Basketball. The leagues will be held at the Concord Boys & Girls Club on Sundays from Dec. 3-Feb. 18, excluding Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Ten fully officiated games are guaranteed, and eight practices. Concord Crush spring season registration is now open. Crush offers both boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams for grades 1-8. A Little Crush option is available for those younger than first grade. Registration and details available on the City of Concord Recreation Department website.
Deadline to sign up for the spring season is Dec. 31.

Players needed

Cannons Baseball is seeking players for the 11U and 15U teams for 2018. The head coach is Dale Emerson. The team does not conflict with town league All Stars. The 15U team starts in January with winter workouts and plays June through August. The team does not conflict with high school baseball.
