With a packed slate of candidates across this year’s ballot, town moderator Dennis Fowler has organized a candidates forum for Saturday.

Races for spots on the select board, school board, and the budget committee are all contested. Ryan Carter, who moved to town this summer, is challenging longtime incumbent Jeff Gryval for a three-year seat on the select board.

Carter became involved with town affairs when the select board voted to stop plowing the road he lived on. He’s pledged to recuse himself from votes regarding the matter, but said the experience left him frustrated with the way the select board handles issues raised by the public.

“I heard a lot of issues raised by residents, and it seemed to me like nobody wanted to listen,” he said.

Carter, who co-owns a commercial glass business, said he also wants follow through on ideas brought up during a town charette, including rezoning, to help bring more business to town.

Gryval did not return requests for comment.

For school board, incumbent Carl Schaefer, former board member Tom Irzyk and Misty Dube are all vying for two spots on the board. Board chair Tom Gilligan, whose term is up, is not running for re-election. Six are vying for four spots on the budget committee, including Roger Laflamme, Ronnie Cox, Debra Carney, Michael Frascinella, Jeffrey Venegas and David Coolidge.

The debate will start at 1 p.m. and take place at the Allenstown Community Center located at 8 Whitten St.
