Nonprofits apply for funding, support

Granite United Way has launched a statewide request for qualification or short-form application for nonprofits to apply for qualification status, funding and support. Qualification is required for all organization seeking funding from the United Way. The deadline to apply is Dec. 14. For more information, go to graniteuw.org.

Schools, library apply for book grant

The Children’s Literacy Foundation invites elementary schools in New Hampshire to apply for its Year of the Book grant, which provides $25,000 in literacy programming throughout the school year. Programming includes author/illustrator visits and workshops with CLiF’s more than 60 professional presenters, family literacy celebrations and seminars, and exciting new literacy initiatives. The grant also provides high-quality new books for classrooms and both the school and local public library (selected by the teachers and librarians), and 10 new books for each child to choose and keep. Schools with at least 25 percent of students scoring below proficient on reading and writing assessments and with at least 30 percent of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch are encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is Jan. 31 at clifonline.org/year-of-the-book.

BristolDecorate the town

The Bristol Events Committee is sponsoring a Holiday Decorating Contest for businesses and residents of Bristol. Decorations must be on the outside of the building and easily seen by the judges. Entry forms may be picked up at and returned to the TTCC, Bristol Town Office or the Minot Sleeper Library. The deadline for entry is Dec. 15 and the judging will take place during the week of Dec. 18. Prizes of gift cards will be awarded for the residential winners and a trophy will be given to the business winner that can be held for a year of bragging rights until 2018’s contest winner is announced.

ConcordGiving cheer to homeless vets

Candidate Jilletta Jarvis is teaming up with Area 23 in Concord to collect gift items for veterans residing at Liberty House in Manchester. Items are being collected until Dec. 19 and can be dropped off at Area 23, 254 N. State St., Concord, or at Jarvis4NH headquarters at 394 Main St. in Sandown. Suggested gifts ideas include winter coats (M to XL), hooded sweatshirts (M to XL), shaving gear, toiletries and stocking stuffers.
