ConcordOrder on the court

In just over a month, more than 200 community members and business leaders will gather on the courts for Granite State Independent Living’s seventh annual wheelchair basketball tournament, Hoops on Wheels 2018! At this event, people with and people without disabilities compete in wheelchairs for the championship title. As players maneuver around the court, they get a small taste of what it’s like to use a wheelchair and the importance of accessibility throughout the community. The all-day tournament will be held March 3, with games starting at 8 a.m. on the courts of Rundlett Middle School, 144 South St. Teams choose their own level, competitive or recreation; each team raising a $1,000 minimum for entry registration. All funds raised will directly support the mission of GSIL. Event admittance is free and open to the public. This year’s event will include an exciting on-site demo of the Wheel Pad L3C to further raise disability awareness and promote accessibility. Event participants will have the chance to step inside a 200-square-foot prototype of an accessible bedroom and bathroom for people with new mobility issues. The temporary housing module will be stationed in the parking lot with tours available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Team registration is now open!
