Terrible injustice

Last modified: 12/19/2011 12:00:00 AM
I am finishing my first year as state representative representing Concord Wards 4, 8, 9 and 10. I am assigned to the Fish and Game Committee in the House. I have enjoyed my first year so far, listening to the debates on the various bills presented for us to vote on. I said before the election that I would do my best to work with anyone, whether they were in my party or in the opposing party.

I am writing to thank Chairman Gary Hopper for his assistance to me on the Fish and Game Committee. I was told by Hopper the reason for his resignation is that any Republican committee chairmen who didn't support the speaker on the recent vote on the right-to-work bill would be asked to step down.

This is a terrible injustice. We are supposed to try to work together. Having this happen seems like the position serves the party and not the people. It is too bad there aren't more people serving our government with the qualities of Gary Hopper. I will be supporting the new chairman of the Fish and Game Committee, but I do feel very badly for Hopper. He deserved better.

REP. DICK PATTEN
