Nonsense from Hoell

Re 'Failed education system needs many 'brave hearts' '(Monitor Forum, Feb. 13):

What a fantastic piece of persuasive writing from the pen of Rep. JR Hoell of Dunbarton! It's clear that he, at least, received a solid education from the very public system he wants to 'demolish.'

However, his thesis rests entirely on the notion that New Hampshire's public schools are somehow 'failing.' Nothing could be further from the truth. New Hampshire consistently ranks in the top five of states across the country, and a recent survey concluded that 68 percent of parents were satisfied (or better) with their public schools.

Hoell seems to want to make a comparison between a mold-ridden house and our current system, but I reject the comparison. It is very disappointing that someone on the House Education Committee could be so ignorant of basic facts about the very system he's charged with supporting.

The voters of Dunbarton should find someone in their district who can spend the time to find out what the real problems are in this state and focus time and energy on those. The arrant nonsense from Hoell indicates that he's not that person.
