How liberal is New Hampshire?

LIBERAL? US? According to the Gallup organization, New Hampshire is among the top 10 most liberal states in the country, measured by the percentage of people among the state's electorate who identify as such.

Self-described conservatives outnumber liberals by a wide margin in New Hampshire, 36.7 percent to 24.4 percent. That number, however, is below the national average, which is why the state ended up in the top 10.

The most liberal states, according to Gallup:

1) District of Columbia: 39.8 %

2) Massachusetts: 30.3 %

3) Washington: 26.4 %

4) Oregon: 26.4 %

5) New York: 26.1 %

6) Hawaii: 25.4 %

7) California: 25.0 %

8) New Jersey: 24.9 %

9) Rhode Island: 24.7 %

10) New Hampshire: 24.4 %

10) Connecticut: 24.4 %

National average: 20.6 %
