Letter: Police Chief Quixote

Sometimes individuals remind me of Don Quixote. I must say that Concord police Chief John Duval in his quest for a BearCat reminds me of this legendary hero. The chief is not well informed or is purposefully misrepresenting facts.

The fact is, the BearCat in question has at least four gun ports. These are ports for rifles to shoot from inside the truck. There is also a turret on the top which can be staffed with a rifleman. It is disingenuous to claim that the truck is “not equipped with weapons,” as Duval does. The fact is, it can be equipped with weapons later. This is not the only reason I consider Duval a quixotic character. He talks as if rolling a BearCat into Concord’s many demonstrations and protests will help him. I believe the Concord Police Department currently handles these protests and demonstrations very well. If they start rolling in a BearCat toward these windmills, my opinion will change.
