Monarchs dealt first regulation loss of season

Lindey Vey put Manchester ahead just 4:09 into the game, but the Monarchs allowed the next three goals and lost to the visiting St. John’s IceCaps, 3-2, last night for their first regulation loss of the season.

Vey scored his second goal of the season with assists from Tyler Toffoli and Derek Forbort. St. John’s (3-3-1-0) responded 39 seconds later on a Carl Klingberg goal to make it 1-1, then Andrew Gordon scored on the power play at 10:53 for a 2-1 lead.

Jason Jaffrey scored for a 3-1 IceCaps lead in the second period before Manchester started to rally on a goal by Nick Deslauriers (assisted by Brandon Kozun and Jordan Weal) at 15:43 of the third.

St. John’s goalie Eddie Pasquale (25 saves) kept the Monarchs off the board after that to drop Manchester to 5-1-1-2. Martin Jones made 28 saves for the Monarchs.

The teams meet again today at 3 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
