Letter: Pleasant day at DMV

Last modified: 6/10/2014 9:13:01 AM
To the New Hampshire DMV staff in Concord, I just wanted to comment on what a positive experience I had on June 4 setting up my New Hampshire driver’s license from out of state (Minnesota).

I was greeted at the front desk by some very positive, outgoing staff, and had another positive, uplifting interaction with Marnie and Stephanie, who helped me finish processing my application.

It has been my experience that state workers tend to be cranky, overworked, overtired and underappreciated. (Or at least that was the stereotype in Minnesota!) I wanted to take a moment and observe the opposite, and to thank the individuals who helped me for the positive experience.

It was a small moment, an everyday kind of occurrence in the to-do lists of life, but it was meaningful to me having just moved here.

We live in a culture of constant criticism and blame, and it is my belief that when good work is done, it should also receive attention and acknowledgment.

As a therapist, I see so much pain and anxiety in our world. Keep spreading your positivity around. It’s good for everyone you come into contact with.

As Roald Dahl said, “If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams.” Keep up the good work!
