Pittsfield Listens is holding its third annual Pittsfield Community Impact Awards on Thursday, when individuals and groups will be recognized for making positive changes in town.

There will be 15 award categories for the best volunteers, community groups and neighbors.

“Community members are lending each other a hand,” said Molly Messenger, an event organizer. “They care deeply about this community. They care about the young people in this community. The impact awards are an attempt to step back and see what’s been done.”

Messenger said there’s an “incredible spirit” in the old mill town that is helping it recover from previous tough times. She said businesses are coming back to the downtown and the student-centered learning efforts are even attracting families to move to town for its school system.

“There’s a real sense that we’re going to take care of our neighbors,” she said.

The award ceremony will kick off at 6 p.m. at the Scenic Theater on Depot Street. Following the ceremony there will be the opportunity to eat and celebrate at Jitters Cafe.
