Driver located after report of attempted abduction in Henniker

Henniker police are filing charges against a driver after a report of an attempted abduction of a child in the town Wednesday night.

A witness called police at approximately 6:15 p.m. to report that an individual driving a gray Audi had stopped to speak with a juvenile walking in the area of Davison Road, according to a police department Facebook post. The caller saw the juvenile run from the Audi, and then the car was gone. The caller got the vehicle’s plate number and provided it to police.

Just a few minutes earlier, the caller had seen the same vehicle driving recklessly on Western Avenue, police said.

Henniker police asked other law enforcement agencies in the state to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle. They also went to the juvenile’s home immediately after the incident, and reported that the juvenile was safe but shaken.

The driver of the Audi was ultimately located by Newbury police and charges are forthcoming.

Calls from the Monitor to Henniker police seeking additional information were not returned Thursday and Friday.
