Letter: Bouchard is an empathetic leader

I first moved to New Hampshire almost 25 years ago from Long Island, New York, renting a house in Concord as I settled into my new community. It was certainly an adjustment – I had to rely on local maps to figure out how to get downtown from my house. I didn’t know anyone in the neighborhood, and was feeling overwhelmed.

But luckily my new next-door neighbor was Candace Bouchard.

I will never forget how Candace went out of her way to make me feel welcome by bringing by snacks and baked goods and introducing me to Concord. She was so warm and understanding, and I think what’s stuck with me most is that she hasn’t changed in the slightest.

Candace’s ability to listen, put herself in other people’s shoes and have real empathy is remarkable, and is certainly something that is missing in our politics today. Candace has been an excellent public servant for Concord both in the House of Representatives and on the city council, and she is just the person we need representing us in the New Hampshire Senate. Today’s climate is unlike anything we’ve experienced before, and we deserve a state senator who has the experience and compassion necessary to lead us through these difficult times.

I urge you to vote for Candace Bouchard for state Senate on Sept. 8.
