Alexa Warburton and Theodore Grimm were married July 21 at Pats Peak in Henniker. Alexa shared some advice about what went into their big day.

What was the best part of your wedding?

The best part of our wedding was having all of my dearest family and friends present for the entire weekend of lawn games, socials, food galore, and lots of dancing! Having my family and friends surrounding me was all I could ask for.

What was the most fun part of planning?

As ironic as it sounds, the most fun part of planning was not having to plan much thanks to Kaleena Guzman, the owner, lead planner and designer at Kagem Chic Designs! Having Kaleena allowed us to plan the things we enjoyed planning but also have someone take the headache out of all the nuances of planning a wedding. I could rely on Kaleena to tell me when a proposal for the wedding is a realistic or bad idea because she’s done it all before, numerous times! Kaleena was so easy to work with and literally allowed me to enjoy my wedding 100 percent.

What was the most difficult part of planning?

Planning a wedding can be quite daunting. The most important thing to remember is to take it one day at a time and give yourself plenty of time to plan. When things are crunched to the last minute, snafus are common and a high-stress environment results.

Did you plan your own wedding or hire a wedding planner?

I hired Kaleena Guzman as a full wedding planner. I would highly recommend any person getting married to contract a wedding planner. It is well worth the cost as they will save you a ton of time and money. They have done this many times before and will provide a clear perspective of what does and does not work. It’s also like having your best friend giving you unbiased straightforward advice any time you need them.

Who else was involved in your wedding planning?

Having Kaleena as our wedding planner, this allowed both our parents to enjoy the weekend and not have to worry about any of the plans. For us, it was very important that our guests and family enjoy the weekend and not worry about making the day perfect for us.

What was a unique feature of your wedding?

Both of us are skiers and so it was important to have an outdoorsy part of the wedding … we elected to have our first look on top of a mountain. We elected to do a first look on top of Mount Sunapee. We also brought our ski boots up to the top of Mount Sunapee, geared up (well, sort of) and gave our private vows to each other while overlooking the Lakes Region.

Did you partake in any wedding traditions?

Yes, we both wanted to cut the cake together and feed one another. Poor Teddy got smashed! We also attempted to throw the bouquet to one of the few singles that were present, however she decided to not catch it. Her parents were not impressed! Ha!

Did anything not go according to plan?

Oh yes, the zipper on my wedding dress broke and my poor mother tried to zip me up and guess what … it wouldn’t zip! When it was steamed they melted the zipper which added a wee bit of stress. Fortunately everything happens for a reason and one of the staff at Dexter’s Inn, Helen, sewed me into my dress the day of. She truly was a lifesaver!

Did you have to go to any Plan B from your original vision?

I think we are both really realistic about the wedding and realized we can’t do it all. We made it more about spending time with family and friends in a low-key setting than in an extravagant wedding.

If you had to do it again, would you change anything?

I’d probably get a metal zipper in my dress so my poor mother didn’t have a heart attack when it wouldn’t zipper. But that said, it all worked out and it was thrilling getting cut out of my dress by Teddy on our wedding night!

How long did it take to plan your wedding?

A year.

Do you have any vendor recommendations?

Yes! Wedding planner, KAGEM Chic Designs’s  Kaleena Guzman. Photographer, Kayti with Ava Marie Photography and second shooter Jaclyn Fritz:  Kayti was relaxed, easy to work with and up for any adventure! She took unbelievable photos. When the zipper broke, Jaclyn was on top of Sunapee with the groom and groomsmen. Jaclyn made perfect use of the extra time taking all the groomsmen photos! Florist, Laurie Jesmer with Cobblestone Design Company:  Laurie and her team did a phenomenal job and were the most reasonably priced around! Hair Stylist, Alea with The Vault, and make-up by Melissa from The Gateway Spa: Alea and Melissa also came to freshen up our hair and makeup at Pats Peak, which meant that after the first look on top of Mount Sunapee everyone continued to look stunning! Wedding Gown, BHLDN, altered by Ava Bishop with Maiden Bridal: Ava made the back of my dress go from frumpy proper to sexy exquisite. Accommodations, Dexter’s Inn in Sunapee:  John is amazing, helpful and very organized! He and his team make a killer breakfast! And Helen truly saved the day with her seamstress abilities. First look location, Mount Sunapee Ski Resort:  Thank you to the lift attendants for getting the entire wedding party to the summit! Wedding ceremony and reception, Pats Peak: Brigid, Courtney and team were wonderful to work with. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to have our wedding!

Do you have any warnings?

Make sure you trust the company that steams your dress! Make sure your vendors stay for allotted time in the contract and if they fail to fulfill the contract, tell them! You shouldn’t pay for something that was not provided.

Any other advice for couples planning their wedding?

Get a wedding planner. They are worth their weight in gold! Also don’t stress about the small stuff and remember to eat and drink on your wedding day, as it is the best party you’ll ever throw!
