Gwen Molind: Bow Female Athlete of the Season

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

What was biggest challenge you or your team faced this season and how did you overcome it? Our team had to drive a 12 person van to all of our matches so that meant that not all of our team could come to all of our away matches. This was frustrating since our team felt a little divided, but at practice and on a couple ice cream trips we were able to bond which made this divide go away.

Who was the unsung hero of your team? Isabelle Dolchino and Alyssa Harpring. They were 7 and 8 on the ladder this year and are such good players that would be top 6 on any other team but they still worked super hard and are going to do very well next year in the top 6.

If you could improve high school tennis in New Hampshire, what would you do?

Nothing that I can think of.

Do you have any sports superstitions? If so, what are they? Not really.

What are some of the unwritten rules of your sport? You are always respectful of your opponent and honest about calls.

Who on your team, coaches included, reminds you of a character in a TV show or movie? Libby Parker and Kylie Murphy remind me of Crash and Eddie from Ice Age. They are the funniest group and always do the strangest things but make practice or a match much more fun.

If life were a video game, what would some of the cheat codes be? Fake it ‘til you make it.

What is something that is really popular now, but in five years everyone will look back on and be embarrassed by? Wearing socks with my Birkenstocks, but right now I’m hoping it’ll be a timeless classic.

What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made? I bought my current tennis racquet for 1 cent which was the best thing I ever bought, and the worst would have to be whenever I go clothes shopping because I buy way too much stuff and end up not wearing, so I then donate it.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know? Some sharks give live birth but there are also some species that lay eggs.

What’s invisible but you wish people could see? A sneeze or cough so people would understand why you should sneeze/cough into your arm.

If you could go to school in a foreign country, which country would you pick and why? Vietnam just because I’ve always wanted to go.

If animals could talk, which would be the rudest? A wasp because they always fly around you and bother people but never go away.

What questions would you like to ask a time traveler from 200 years in the future? Can we live underwater or on a different planet?

If you were hired to show tourists what life is really like where you live, what would you show them / have them do? I would bring them to a Bow High School tennis match!

What is the craziest thing one of your teachers has done? One of my teachers once ate 2-year-old spray cheese with a Bugle chip and wanted the rest of the class to eat it as well because it was “sooo good.”

What’s the best thing about being a teen? What’s the worst? Adults not taking me seriously is probably the worst but the best would have to be being able to have the free time to play sports and other clubs and activities.
