Izzy Dunn: Concord Female Athlete of the Season

Thursday, June 28, 2018

What was the biggest challenge you or your team faced this season and how did you overcome it? We started out with a 1-3 record, and coach told us we would have to change a whole lot just to make playoffs. We didn’t lose after that.

Who was the unsung hero of your team? Jillian Dusseault is the unsung hero of the team – she was my co-captain and was always lifting the team up, even when she couldn’t play because of her ACL injury.

If you could improve high school softball in New Hampshire, what would you do?

I would implement more clinics like the one CHS softball did over the winter, where older players teach younger players skills in an attempt to build a stronger program for the future.

Do you have any sports superstitions? If so, what are they? Our team avoided bad juju at all costs. We ended throwing warmups each day with the same routine and my partner would always be the last one to touch the ball. The team’s bats could never cross. We also wore eye black (and put it on in the same order in the same way) every game since we went 1-3.

Who on your team, coaches included, reminds you of a character in a TV show or movie? We call Carly “Marcel” because she sounds like Marcel the Shell.

What is something that is really popular now, but in five years everyone will look back on and be embarrassed by? Boys cuffing the bottom of their khaki pants.

Where do you get your news? Twitter/Facebook.

What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made? Best: phone. Worst: clothes that I never wear.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know? Lacrosse is the national sport of Canada.

What’s invisible but you wish people could see? Lies.

If you could go to school in a foreign country, which country would you pick and why? I am going to school in Canada because it’s my homeland.

If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?

Hippos.

What questions would you like to ask a time traveler from 200 years in the future? Do people still text on phones? Is there a cure for cancer yet?

If you were hired to show tourists what life is really like where you live, what would you show them / have them do? I would take them an hour north to the mountains, an hour east to the ocean, and an hour south to Boston.

What is the craziest thing one of your teachers has done? She swore in front of the whole class.

What’s the best thing about being a teen? What’s the worst?

Best: whole life in front of you; living with few responsibilities

Worst: pressure of having to know what you want to do with your life; treated like child when really grown up.
