A Concord man is accused of fatally stabbing his wife at an apartment complex in the city Sunday afternoon.

Emerson Jaques Figueiredo, 42, is facing alternative counts of second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Nathalia Da Paixao, 35, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office announced Sunday night. One charge alleges that he knowingly caused her death by stabbing her and the other alleges that he recklessly killed her “under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life.”

Concord police received multiple 911 calls on Sunday afternoon concerning a disturbance at the Edgewood Heights Condo Associates on Branch Turnpike. Outside the apartment complex, police found Da Paixao suffering from stab wounds, authorities said. She was immediately taken to Concord Hospital where she later died.

An autopsy will be performed Monday by the state medical examiner.

Figueiredo is being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon in Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord.

Police ask anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Concord police Lt. Sean Ford at 225-8600 or the Concord Regional Crimeline at 226-3100.

The attorney general’s office and New Hampshire State Police are also assisting Concord police with a second, unrelated incident at a home on Concord Street. No additional information about that incident has been released.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
