The Concord School Board meeting that was scheduled to take place Monday at 7 p.m. was postponed due to technology issues with a new version of Microsoft Office Teams, the platform the board uses for virtual meetings.

Interim superintendent Kathleen Murphy said the administration decided to switch to a new version of Microsoft Office Teams for Monday’s board meeting that would allow more members of the public to speak. They decided to switch after the school reopening community forums on Tuesday and Thursday of last week attracted more virtual participants than the software could accommodate, Murphy said.

The new version of Teams proved problematic for the participants, however, and at least three board members were left unable to virtually enter the meeting, except by phone. That led board president Jennifer Patterson to postpone the meeting to a date that will be announced soon.

“It’s really important for us to have this meeting as soon as we possibly can,” Patterson said. “This is a really important conversation and we all need to be able to participate in it.”

At the meeting, board members were planning to announce the plans for school reopening, discuss the steps the district is taking to address racial discrimination, and do a first reading of the updated Title IX sexual harassment policy draft.

Several members of the public who were unmuted on the call expressed displeasure at the technical difficulties and the inconvenience of rescheduling, calling the issues “unacceptable.”

Patterson apologized on behalf of the board.

“Thank you to everyone who was here. I am sorry we were not able to have this conversation. It is very important,” Patterson said. “Please look for more information on the website as to when we will be holding the meeting.”
