Concord senior Isaac Gladey earned a spot in the 170-pound quarterfinals at the New England High School Wrestling Championships in Providence, R.I, on Friday night.

Gladey advanced with a 5-2 decision over Derek Turner of Killingly, Conn. Gladey scored a first-period takedown to seize early control and took a 3-1 edge into the third period. Starting on bottom, Turner escaped early in the final frame to cut the deficit in half, but Gladey finished a takedown with 17 seconds left to secure the victory. Gladey will square off with David Langlois of Woburn, Mass., in the quarterfinals on Saturday morning.

Concord 220-pounder Noah Giffard is still fighting for a spot on the podium despite a 3-2 setback in an ultimate tiebreaker in his opening match to Ray Weiner of Shelton, Conn. Giffard bounced back with a 5-1 victory over Devin Shaw of Chahiro, R.I., using a reversal and back points in the third period to stay alive in the tournament.

Concord’s Jack Sargent wrapped up a stellar season in the 126-pound bracket. He suffered a 9-7 loss to Isaac Graylin of Winchester, Mass., in the Round of 32, before Donald Ryan of Boston College, Mass., eliminated him with a 15-0 technical fall.

Wrestling is scheduled to continue on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
