Incumbent Pam Wicks is running against Gina Cannon in School Board District C, which includes Concord Wards 8, 9 and 10.

Pam Wicks

How long have you lived in Concord? I have lived in Concord for almost 8 1/2 years.

Profession: I’m a stay at home parent

Other experience: School volunteer and Broken Ground PTA President, board member of the following Concord community organizations: Hearts for Kindness, RB Productions, Concord Northeast Baseball and The Concord Trust for the Enhancement of Public Education.

What two issues are most important to you, and what would you do to address them? Student safety is a big issue currently and I would continue to work with the board and our community partners, including parents and students, to work on policies that will help change the climate and culture in our schools. The Rundlett Middle School facility is also a big issue and we need to continue working towards what our new middle school facility is going to look like, where it’s going to be and how it’s going to be structured so we can ensure that the needs of the 21st-century learner are met. I have already been a part of this process and would continue to have discussions during our facilities meetings on timelines and costs.

What voice/skills would you add to city government? I feel that as a volunteer in our schools, working at book fairs, assisting theater programs, planning and executing spring flings and harvest festivals I provide a unique “voice” for the board. I see what goes on in the classrooms, how our teachers manage large and diverse classes, how the needs of our students have changed, and I’m dedicated to the work of moving our district forward. As a parent with students in the district, I have a vested interest in the direction that our school district moves.
