Letter: Let’s educate kids about drugs, alcohol

Tuesday, October 09, 2018

To the good citizens of Pittsfield: I think it was Ben Franklin, John Adams or Tom Hitchcock who said, “If you trade freedom for protection, you deserve neither.” Some people, including me, want a drug and alcohol education program for our school kids. Some people, including me, want a treatment center in our town. The thing is, we’re stumbling along; I want to quicken the pace. Here’s the plan: I fashioned a petition to repeal zoning. I go to the town hall on voting day and sign people up, getting enough signatures in one day, and I submit it when appropriate. We vote in early March. If it passes, maybe Teen Challenge buys the nunnery, and provides the education program for our schools and starts a treatment facility. See you at the polls.
