University of New Hampshire track star Elinor Purrier has earned a spot in Saturday’s finals for the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Purrier led her heat from start to finish on Thursday and edged Oregon’s Jessica Hull in a photo finish.

Purrier, the most decorated athlete in UNH history, turned in a time of 4:10.08 to further lower the New England and UNH record in the 1,500 that she set two weeks ago at the NCAA East prelims. Hull finished with a time of 4:10.09.

The top nine of 24 times in the two heats came from Purrier’s group.

“It felt pretty good,” Purrier said. “I knew I was in a fast heat, so I wanted to set a pretty fast pace.”

Saturday’s final is scheduled for 6:42 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN.
